Darren Cullen has taken aim at the hype and lies around AI, with this piece in bus stops and, more pointedly, on the shop noticboards of Sainsburys supermarket, where the staff impacted are more likely to connect with it.
From the Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives blog:
“The Mechanical Turk, an 18th Century chess-playing “machine”, was revealed to be a hoax relying on a human operator. Today’s AI often masks human labour, with workers completing tasks AI can’t. Big Tech uses “ghost work” to create the illusion of automation, exploiting workers and driving down wages.”
Text at the botton of the poster reads “Like many corporations, we bvelieve AI is the future of profit miximisation and worker replacement. Unfortunately however, AI technology is not currently advanced enough for us to liquidate our entire staff. That’s why we need to seal you inside one of these machines. Enquire within!”
