A pro-Palestine artwork which was installed in a new bus stop last week in Norwich became an active symbol of resistance when it was taken down, salvaged and then re-installed with the addition of a powerful new message.

One of the team behind the poster writes: “Norwich activists installed pro-Palestine artwork in a bus stop last week…but by the following morning it had been ripped down (not replaced, just removed). A photographer sent to document the artwork happened upon it in a nearby bin. It was promptly salvaged, adapted, and replaced in the same bus stop later in the week: a sign of resistance!”

However, minutes after its re-installation, a security guard from the nearby Anglia Square shopping centre appeared, taking 10 minutes to force the ad unit open – then tore down the poster once again (this time not leaving it in the closest bin!)”

The removal of the artwork was witnessed and recorded. Interestingly, the removal was not carried out by Clear Channel, but instead by a security guard from the local shopping centre. The security guard did not have a key for the panel, and it took him over 10 minutes to force it open – possibly damaging it in the process. Turns out these things are best left to the professionals…
